Canada Summer Jobs 2017 Application Period for Employers Extended

If your small business is considering hiring a few student employees for the summer season, and you haven’t already submitted a Canada Summer Jobs application, you’re getting a bit of extra time to do so.

If your small business is considering hiring a few student employees for the summer season, and you haven’t already submitted a Canada Summer Jobs application, you’re getting a bit of extra time to do so.

The Government of Canada has extended this year’s application period to February 3, 2017.

If your application is approved, the program provides a grant to your small business equal to 50% of the provincial minimum wage for each hour worked by a supported summer student.

You can apply for a number of positions based on your anticipated hiring needs. You may not be approved for all the positions you request, but even one funded position is a boon to your bottom line.

The duration of the job must be between six and sixteen weeks, and the position must be for 30 to 40 hours per week of employment.

So, for each approved position, the Government of Canada will provide a grant up to 40 x 16 x half of your province’s minimum wage. For example, a small business in Saskatchewan would receive up to 40 x 16 x $10.72/2 = $3,430.40 per approved position.

Remember, if you don’t apply, you can’t be approved!
